This Extreme Outback Log Cabin is upgraded in that it features shingle material and feet protection. The Extreme has asphalt shingles to protect against extreme weather conditions. I bought this house for 3 stray cats who need protection from tropical rains and to keep their food dry. They love it! I raised it up so the cats hide underneath, they use the inside and sit on the roof. It was so easy to assemble. I added a layer of polyurethane for extra protection. To decorate, I put big wooden letters on the front that say "Cats" and added a cat siloette. It is so cute!

The actual doghouse is fine. I was expecting a thicker, more sturdy wood, but it works. [...] I recieved it on time, but when it arrived there were holes in the box, and all the corners and edges of the pieces of doghouse were knicked and scrathed. The entire bottom piece of the front panel was completely broken off, so I had to get creative to be able to make the floor boards stay in place. If it was made of more sturdy wood and was shipped better, this would be a great doghouse.

Got the Extreme Outback, size large. Internal dimensions are 27"W x 39"L x 28"H front (25"H back).
Color is clear-stain on sides with dark-stain trim. Just right fit for one West Highland White Terrier and two Jack Russell Terriers.

First of all, this arrived very quickly, and I was very happy about that.

Next, it was very easy to put together. It arrived in the morning, so I unpacked it on lunch to see what I would need to prep to do later, and wound up putting the whole thing together during my lunch hour. It was very easy, just 20 bolts/screws total, and all the pieces fit perfectly, with no hole misalignment whatsoever. I was MIGHTILY impressed. The finished product is attractive, and the large size is great for my German Shepherd. I also love the feet that keep it off the deck (or ground if I decide to move it into the grass at some point).

Really, what's NOT to love about this? The price was right, and everything else as well. Thanks Hayneedle!

We bought this doghouse about 6 years ago for our yellow lab who is 85 lbs and Blue Heeler who is (55 lbs. It has held up FANTASTIC! It's sturdy, sits off the ground with vented flooring, plenty of room to stand up inside for both dogs! The entry door off-centered provides ADDED protection from the weather, rain, snow, sleet from getting inside. We've restained it one time since we were staining our deck anyway so they all matched! Recently we had a tremendously damaging hail storm with hail the size of BASEBALLS! Literally! Even though the doghouse is shaded by huged 70 year old Sycamore trees hail still managed to cut it's way through the tree hitting the asphalt shingles on the doghouse. It was as strong as OUR HOUSE holding up just fine; however, it did get three large 3" diameter cuts from the hail so the insurance adjuster is allowing us to replace if we want. [...]

A: We would recommend the Extreme Outback Log Cabin for the highest desired comfort. Both items have numerous similarities such as both being designed of fir wood, both houses assemble in 3 easy steps, and numerous size options are available.

Q2: How do I choose a size for a dog that is about 60 pounds?

A: A medium sized dog house would be recommended as it can hold up to 70 pounds.

Q3: Is this dog house appropriate for 20-30 degree temperatures?

A: This dog house is only wood, and only 3/4 inch thick. With conditions like that, we suggest getting an insulation kit. The Log Cabin Style Dog House Insulation Kit, item number PPP092, goes with this dog house.

Q4: How big a house do I need for 3 stray cats.

A: A small should do just fine. If you wanted a little more room a medium would be more than enough room.
