I have two large boxer dogs. My male dog is a beast! We used to lock them in the bathroom when we left the house (he would dig under the fence and get out when we left him outside) while in the bathroom for 39 minutes, he chewed his way out through the bathroom door. Yup, a hole in the door about 2 feet wide and 2 feet high. He also dug through my bathroom floor and tried eating his way out through the wall. Finally I got tired of him getting out and tearing apart my house and was tempted to give him away. So I bought this kennel with doubts. But my boyfriend and brother put it together in about 3 hours. We used a little extra wire just in case and dug a trench about 3 inches deep and 4 inches wide and set the cage in it. We also took a few links from the roll of chain link it came with off, just to make the fence stronger around the cage. This is the FIRST thing to hold my demon dog in. If it is "Mac Proof" (my demon dog) it is strong enough for any dog.

This product is very flemsy! The chainlink was all tangled up at the bottom and coming loose. I had to purchase additional products to make it work for the purpose I bought it, and didn't have time to return it for a refund or exchange. I needed a kennel for my dogs so I could put my house on the market. After $100.00 worth of new products I was able to make it work. My three dogs do fine inside but they are older and less active. I do not recommend this product! The old saying is very true, " You get what you pay for." Spend a little more and get something sturdy and worth your time and money!

i like the kennel and so do my pups...they are almost 4 months old now and they need to be outside and get the fresh air instead of being cooped up in the house all the time. so thank you hayneedle...plus your fast and efficient service, it got here a week before you said it would. your a wonderful company and i will be ordering from you again in the future. I use this as a puppy training pen. It is heavy enough to be secure, but also light enough to be moved around the yard

Comments about PetSafe Boxed Chain Link Dog Kennel:

This thing is useless. The dog has no trouble loosening the fasteners at the bottom and getting out. She actually moved the entire thing (we have not used the anchors yet because we were waiting for it to rain so we could make sure it was not placed in a flood area of the yard. She has also dug out several times.

      Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was prompt and exactly as promised, in good condition.

      Reasonable Construction for the Cost

Comments about PetSafe Boxed Chain Link Dog Kennel:

Unlike more costly kennels, which use individual wall panels, this unit utilizes a single 'sheet' of fence fabric to wrap around all sides. Assembly by one person is somewhat challenging, but is certainly possible.

The tubular frame seems sturdy enough with the top and bottom rails being each composed of four sections swaged to slide together to form each part (a square with rounded corners). The vertical posts clamp to the top and bottom rails. Since the top and bottom sections do have rounded corners, it is necessary to measure in order to fit the corner posts accurately. We also used a level to plumb the verticles.

The gate is fairly narrow - which is generally not a problem, but if one wishes to put a hard-sided crate (or perhaps a doghouse) inside the kennel, plan ahead.

The fence fabric is tied to the various rails via standard chain-link fence aluminum ties. The instructions suggest putting a tie every 3 diamonds at the top and every 5 at the bottom. We put them every 3 diamonds top and bottom - plenty were supplied.

After assembly, the kennel seemed fairly substantial...until our then 6-month old female German Shepherd Dog had a go at it. She first attacked the gate and bent the fence fabric at the bottom, though did not escape. After repairing this area (see below), we left her there again. This time she managed to push up (and significantly bend) the fence fabric at one bottom edge sufficiently to enable her to escape (fortunately, the secondary containment system kept her from REALLY escaping).

Our repair and future (hopefully permanent) fix is that we wove a galvanized wire through the 2nd row of diamonds from the bottom and secured it on each vertical post. We then looped the same type wire around the bottom rail and through every bottom diamond, thus "tying down" the fence. We'll see.

So, recommended? Given sufficient information, one can secure the kennel as needed, so we do cautiously recommend it.

Comments about PetSafe Boxed Chain Link Dog Kennel:

We needed a small kennel for a vacation house. We assemebled it on site. It was easy, but not quite as easy as the instructions indicate. They indicate that you "might" want an extra pair of hands, but I don't see how one person could have done it alone. That being said, neither of us had ever worked with chain-link before, but we had no problems with this kit. It looks nice & works just fine for our 2 large dogs.
