Selecting the right dog crate
For the comfort and safety of your pooch, it is important to choose the right size of crate. The dog should be able to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably in his/her crate. A good tip is that the crate needs be about 1 1/2 times larger than the length of the dog.
Traveling can be stressful
Traveling can be extremely stressful for any animal. It is always good idea to familiarize your dog with the crate prior to traveling. Allow your dog the get familiar with the crate by having it in your home where he can get inside and try it out. Allowing your pet this time will help him feel more comfortable with the crate when it comes time to travel.
Animals sometimes get sick during travel due to nerves or bumpy terrain. It is not a good idea to feed your dog before traveling. A dog should never eat less than four hours before they will be traveling. You will also need to keep the crate out of direct sunlight so that your dog will not get too warm or overheated. It is also important to stop every so often and allow your dog to stretch and go to the bathroom.
Never transport your pet without a crate. A dog crate will keep your dog safe and secure in all types of traveling situations. Anyone who travels with their pet needs a crate.
