The Ultra edition boasts an easy-open squeeze latch, metal side vents and an interior moat to keep pets dry. New "Fast-Nut" hardware provides quick assembly. There's even tie-down strap holes molded in around the door perimeter. I believe this to be a downgrade from the previous model Deluxe Vari Kennel. Though I never really cared for the latches used to join the 2 halves of the older model, the dial door closure worked well and securely closed. It has been replaced with the pinch type that seems to never latch without messing with it.
The plastic of this new model is thinner and lighter weight than the previous model. The stacking protrusions make for an uneven floor and wasted space in the bottom of the crate. This is a less desireable floor design than the previous model that had a "moat" around the entire floor of the crate.
I have 3 of the older model Deluxe Vari Kennel, have been using them for years and been satisfied with their performance. This, however is a definite downgrade in quality from what I have come to expect from Petmate.

This is the second Vari-Kennel which I have purchased (just recently got a second dog). They are safe for the pet, and secure. It is a little work to put them together or take them apart, but that is because they are so secure when put together. Easy to clean.
