Outdura® is not waterproof, but it is water-repellent. Over time, normal wear, usage and cleaning will reduce the effectiveness of the water-repellent finish that we apply during manufacture. So, if water-repellency becomes an issue after repeated normal use and cleaning, a specialty product may be used to retreat your Outdura fabric
If kept clean, Outdura® fabrics will not mildew. Unlike natural fibers, the characteristics of acrylic fibers will not support the growth of mildew. However, mildew can and will grow on any surface that is dirty, so we recommend keeping your Outdura® fabric clean when possible.
Outdura® fabrics should be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive dirt from accumulating. Simply brush off any loose dirt and rinse with lukewarm water. To clean, use a solution of lukewarm water (not exceeding 100°F) and a mild natural soap such as Lux™ or Ivory™. Rinse thoroughly to remove excess soap.
Outdura® fabrics are sun and fade resistant. During manufacturing a special yarn is used made from solution-dyed acrylic in which the pigment is added while the fiber still is in solution. With this method, the color permeates the fiber so it can't rub off or wash away. Stabilizers are also added in the same way to minimize the effects of the sun, to help the fabric maintain strength over time, and to inhibit rot.

Outdura® fabric should be cleaned regularly to prevent excessive dirt from accumulating. Simply brush off any loose dirt and rinse with lukewarm water. To clean, use a solution of lukewarm water (not exceeding 100° F) and a mild natural soap such as Lux" or Ivory". Rinse thoroughly to remove excess soap. For light cleaning, avoid the use of detergents. For tough stains, spot-clean with a spray with a mist of water and mild soap, then sponge or brush lightly. Rinse thoroughly in clean water, then air dry, blot or use a wet-vacuum. Repeat final steps until all soap residue is gone. To clean stubborn stains and/or mildew, use 1 cup bleach and 1/4 cup of mild soap per gallon of clean water (increase for severe stains). Soak affected area for 20 minutes before using sponge or clean towel to remove stain. Rinse well and air dry. NEVER DRY CLEAN OUTDURA. IF NECESSARY, CAREFULLY IRON ON SYNTHETIC SETTING; DO NOT USE STEAM. Removable umbrella and cushion covers may be machine washed in cold water using normal amounts of mild soap and 1 cup of bleach. Maintaining Water Repellency: Normal wear, usage and cleaning will reduce the effectiveness of Outdura's water-repellent finish. If water repellency is important, a water-repellency treatment (available at marine and awning stores) should be used if the fabric has been cleaned or if the fabric is constantly exposed to the elements.
